Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have culled after the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) of Bangalore in India among the top-7 universities in India.
JNU is second and BHU is third.
Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Thursday released the list of NIRF India Ranking 2020.
Indian Institute of Science secured the first rank with the highest score in the university category, while Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi and Banaras Hindu University in UP secured second and third rank among Top-7 universities in India.
IISc has left the rest of the country’s most reputed universities behind by a considerable margin. If IISc scores 84.18, JNU 70.16, and BHU 63.15 were able to score.
In 2019, IISc had topped among the top-7 universities in India and the second and third numbers were JNU and BHU, while this time Jamia Milia University in Delhi has made it to the top 7. Jamia was ranked 12th in the rank of 2019, while the rank has reached the 10th position in Jamia 2020.

1. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Indian Institute of Science is a Top in the list of Top-7 universities in India. The Indian Institute of Science (BHAVISAN) was conceived as a research institute or research university by Jamset G. Nasarwan Ji Tata, in the last years of the nineteenth century. The institute was born on 27 May 1909 after a long hiatus of about thirteen years from this hypothesis.
Early History The institute has been a golden chapter of Indian higher education and forensic research. Many eminent persons have contributed to the establishment of the Institute.
Prominent among them are Jamshed Ji Tata, Swami Vivekananda, who was his co-passenger in the well-known Chicago yatra, The Maharaja of Mysore, Shri Krishraj Vadyar–IV, his mother and the then viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, after his appointment, the first task was the acquisition of the preamble of the institute’s institution-founded committee.
It took many years to materialize the proposal and in this difficult period, Jamshed Ji Tata’s colleague Burorji Padshah played an extremely important role.
Unfortunately, a few years before seeing his imagination come true, Jamshed Ji Tata passed away in 1904. In 1909, a unique experiment in the fields of higher education and research was launched with the release of the Indian Institute of Science of the British Government.

2. Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi
Jawaharlal Nehru University is second in the list of the Top-7 universities in India. Jawaharlal Nehru University is India’s leading university and a world-renowned center for teaching and research. JNU, topped in India by The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAC) with a grade point of 3.91 (on a scale of 4), got the third position in the year 2016 in all universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Government of India and 2nd in 2017.
JNU won the best university award on behalf of the President of India in the year 2017. JNU is now a young university. It was established in the year 1966 by an Act of Parliament.

3. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
The Banaras Hindu University was established by the great nationalist leader Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916. Madan Mohan Malaviya was accompanied by great personalities like Dr. Annie Besant in setting up this Central University.
It was established under the Parliamentary Law ‘B.H.U. Act 1915’.
Not only that, but it also played an important role in the freedom movement and emerged as the largest center of education in India. The main campus of this Central University is spread over an area of 1,300 acres.
During the Second World War, the airfield of the complex was launched to provide flying training to the military. There is another campus of the university at Barkchha in the Mirzapur district.
The university has three institutions, 14 faculty, 140 departments, four interdisciplinary centers, and three constitution schools. It studies subjects related to humanities, social sciences, technology, medicine, science, fine arts, etc.

4. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore
Amrita University is a multi-campus, interdisciplinary research university that is certified ‘A’ by NAAC and is positioned as one of the best research universities in India.
This Amrita university is spread across 5 campuses in 3 states of India – Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, with the University headquarters at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and Ettimadai.

5. Jadavpur University, Kolkata
Discovering the history of Jadavpur University means to find part of India’s freedom movement, at least after the Swadeshi movement. It was 1905-1906.
Bengal was divided. The British establishment had to be challenged. This changing scene had to play a new role in education.
It was a new form of resistance that could promote the emerging nationalist spirit. With this in mind, the National Council of Education (NCE) came into existence.

6. University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad
University of Hyderabad is sixth in the list of Top-7 universities in India. September 14, 2018, Hindi Day celebrations were held at the Administrative Building of the University of Hyderabad.
Hindi Officer, Dr. (Mrs.) Shri Gyan Mote welcomed everyone at the ceremony. He was the chief guest of the function and the Purvanchal V. Also presented a brief introduction to Dr. Prem C. Patanjali, the former Vice-Chancellor. Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hyderabad, Sir.
Appa Rao Podile welcomed the chief guest. Several teachers and staff were present on the occasion. Hon’ble Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s ‘Hindi Day Message’ was read out on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, Hindi Department, Prof. Sachchidanand Chaturvedi said that this year, the department Hindi has also contributed to the festival of Rajbhasha Hindi.
As directed by the Vice-Chancellor, the Department for Students of the University of Hyderabad organized an essay writing competition in Hindi which was very successful.

7. Calcutta University, Kolkata
Calcutta University is last in the list of Top-7 universities in India. The credit for preparing the highest Nobel laureate in India also goes to Calcutta University. Calcutta University has seen a close view of deteriorating India. It has also been a witness to India’s development.
The names of eminent personalities like Ronald Ross, Rabindranath Tagore, CV Raman, and Amartya Sen are also associated with the university. Famous people like Bankamchandra Chatterjee and Juddonath Bose have graduated from this university.
Calcutta University is the only university in the country which is among the 7 universities of du new, which falls under the UN’s AK Dynamic Impact program. The university has received ‘ A ‘ grade recognition from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
Most of the students who have secured top rank in the net examination for Ph.D. studies with government scholarships are from Kolkata University. The University of Kolkata itself has changed itself into a more global and modern institution rather than the whereabouts of traditional areas of study.
Short term courses in basic and advanced cytometers such as Centre for Research in Nano Science and Nanotechnology are conducted by Calcutta University. The Centre for Nano Technology is also established at Calcutta University.
There are about 636 faculty members at Calcutta University. It covers 14 colleges. 343 courses are run by Calcutta University. In the Library of this University, 40000 thousand books were included in 2011.
